It’s been a massive year for Brisbane’s Guards of May – two singles – “Arcadia” and “Annotata” have propelled them down the track of the Australian heavy/progressive scene – a major leap ahead. The 5-piece have found their sound and undertook the largest project that they have ever approached – the recording of a full-length album, amongst the release of the two singles, the two East-Coast Tours, a handful of amazing supports and planning for the release in 2015.
Now, with the album almost completely mixed and mastered and a view to attack 2015 with gusto, Guards of May have now signed their management to Pricewar Music with Tim Price as their Manager, joining Sydonia, Ezekiel Ox and StormChasers on the roster. Some love from Dead Letter Circus on their Facebook page recently ratcheted up the plays on their new single ‘Annotata’ on Soundcloud and garnered them over 5000 plays and 1000 new likes on Facebook – an overwhelmingly positive response and an indication that they are sitting on something about to explode.
The signing comes at the end of a year where Price took things up a notch in the Australian Music Industry, opening booking agency Underscore Agency, ramping up PR duties for Collision Course PR and taking El Grande Festival to the next level. 2014 has seen Pricewar/Underscore Artists Sydonia, Bound For Ruin and Darkc3ll showcasing at BIGSOUND, Price being selected in John Butler/Mama Kin’s 2014 The Seed program, a sold out El Grande Festival featuring Dead Letter Circus, Sietta and more, bringing cousin Nick Price into the fold on the PR side of things and massive releases and tours for all of Sydonia, Ezekiel Ox and StormChasers.
It’s not like Guards of May are slackers either – they have shared the stage with Grinspoon, Spiderbait, Dead Letter Circus, Sydonia, Young Lions, Helm, Like Thieves and more. Their previous releases have seen them making their way down the East Coast of Australia and the track seeing solid play and accolades on triple j’s The Racket and Home and Hosed, as well as Triple M’s Distortion and New Rock at Night show, AndrewHaugRadio’s Heavy at Home and The Aussie Alternative, just to name a few. Arcadia also featured on US radio shows Rock Radio, The Indie Authority’s Livewire with Lady Spitfire, Neueregelradio and radiohhh.com.
Overwhelmingly positive reviews flowed in, with Heavy and Weird Blog stating “[Arcadia]…excites me because it previews a band who may just be working on a new modern Australian prog rock/metal masterpiece.” They have seen success in other areas too – the film clip for their debut single “Control” was nominated for the 2012 Australian Film Editor’s Guild Autodesk Award, along with the likes of Angus and Julia Stone, Guy Sebastian and Ball Park Music.
Guards of May’s as-yet-untitled debut LP will be out in the first half of 2015 and support tours and full national headline tour will follow.
